A Letter from our Founder

Our story is a familiar one, echoing the concerns of countless parents who face the daunting question: what will become of our special needs child when we are no longer able to provide care? This question, laden with uncertainty and anxiety, gnawed at my heart as I contemplated the future of my son, Harlan, who is now only six years old.

In my mind, I envisioned a home of hope & inspiration, a vibrant, resort-style community brimming with opportunities for growth and fulfillment. A place where individuals like Harlan could thrive, receiving not only the necessary care, but also the support to develop their own sense of worth and contribution to society.

Yet, as my search fell short of such aspirations, I arrived at a pivotal realization: the power to create this vision lay within my own grasp. Casting aside former plans for a multifamily housing development, I founded Harlan's Place Foundation.

The land and transformative project, coupled with a pre-approved development order, stands poised to break ground in early 2025. Our vision encompasses a state-of-the-art, fully furnished 60-unit independent living complex—a sanctuary infused with warmth and compassion that also boasts safety features, providing constant communication with loved ones on activities and achievements.

At Harlan's Place, residents will not only find a home but also a vibrant tapestry of life-enhancing amenities. From a serene pond, walking track, and dynamic recreational center to resident assistants and counseling programs steeped in Christian principles. Every aspect of our community is meticulously designed to foster growth, independence, and joy.

Central to our ethos is the belief that every individual possesses inherent worth and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to society. With this conviction guiding our efforts, we are committed to empowering our residents through employment opportunities, volunteer work, and holistic support services.
