Who We Are

Welcome to Harlan’s Place, where our story is one of love, hope, and dedication to creating a bright future for our beloved son, Harlan. Our journey began with a simple yet profound desire: to ensure that Harlan, who has Down Syndrome, can lead an independent life in an environment that mirrors the opportunities available to individuals without disabilities.

As parents, like so many others, our dreams for Harlan extend far beyond the boundaries that society sometimes places on those with differing abilities. We envision a place where Harlan, and others like him, can flourish, make choices, and experience the richness of life in a setting that respects their unique strengths and aspirations.

Realizing that Harlan's journey towards independence requires thoughtful planning and support, we founded Harlan’s Place. We recognized that, as parents, our concerns extended not only to Harlan's present but also to his future, particularly regarding housing and care when we are no longer able to provide support.

Our 501(c)3 Foundation is driven by a commitment to creating living environments that go beyond traditional notions of disability care. We aim to foster communities where individuals like Harlan can thrive, make choices, and build connections, mirroring the opportunities available to everyone.

Our mission is deeply personal but extends to all families facing similar concerns. We believe that each individual, regardless of ability, has the right to live a life filled with purpose, dignity, and independence. Through our foundation, we seek to address not only the immediate needs of those with Down syndrome but also the long-term considerations of housing and care that concern so many families.

As we embark on this journey, we invite you to join us in building a future where individuals with Down syndrome, including our cherished Harlan, can live in environments that nurture their potential, celebrate their uniqueness, and provide the safety and care they deserve. Together, we can create a world that embraces diversity, inclusion, and the belief that everyone has the right to a life of independence and fulfillment.
